The Big Sandy Heritage Center Museum opened in 2003 under the auspices of the City of Pikeville as the Big Sandy Mountain Center in the old Chesapeake and Ohio Passenger Depot at 787 Hambley Boulevard. For a brief period between 2013-2015, the museum was rebranded as the Hatfield & McCoy Pikeville/Pike County Museum and operated under the jurisdiction of the Pike County Fiscal Court and Pike County Tourism. In April of 2015, the museum relocated to the Pike County Courthouse Annex building at 712 Division Street. Soon thereafter, by September of 2015, it rebranded once more as the Big Sandy Heritage Center Museum. Currently, the museum is the largest repository for artifacts and memorabilia in the Big Sandy Valley. 

The mission of the Big Sandy Heritage Center Museum is to collect, preserve, and promote the rich history of the Big Sandy region. Through engaging exhibits, educational programs, and community outreach, we strive to inspire a deeper appreciation and understanding of the people, places, and events that define our region's heritage.

The Big Sandy Heritage Center Museum envisions its future as a dynamic cultural hub that fosters a deeper connection to our region's past. Through innovative programs, collaborations, and immersive experiences, we will inspire curiosity, strengthen community ties, and ensure that the history of the Big Sandy region remains a living legacy for future generations.
